Standard Tolerances

Optical Quality

Reynard has a Quality Assurance (QA) systematic process in place to ensure products meet specified requirements. We are committed to ensuring the most up to date testing and inspection methods are being used to establish confidence that quality requirements will be met.

Quality Inspection

Reynard uses the default quality inspection terminology:

  • Interferometry measurements and roughness shall be performed before coating, unless otherwise specified.
  • Certificate of Conformance will be supplied with every order.
  • Inspection reports to be provided upon request
  • Inspection Sampling: AQL 1.0 Level 2, Normal based on ISO 2859-1
  • Unspecified tolerances shall be interpreted as Commercial Quality, as defined below in Standard Tolerances.
  • Customer furnished materials (CFM) will be inspected for damage and surface quality concerns upon receipt.  Any identified issues will be brought to the customer’s attention prior to processing. Reynard Corporation shall not be responsible for CFM defects not associated with the value added.

Standard Tolerances

A standard tolerance chart for optics is crucial because it defines acceptable limits for various parameters (like surface quality, flatness, centration, etc.) that directly impact the performance, manufacturability, and cost of an optical system. By following a standardized tolerance chart, optical engineers can ensure that optics are both cost-effective and capable of meeting performance requirements, which is especially important for complex systems with multiple lenses or mirrors.
