Green energy is energy that is produced in a manner that has less of a negative impact to the environment than energy sources like fossil fuels, which are often produced with harmful side effects. “Greener” types of energy that often comes to mind are solar, wind, geothermal, and hydro energy. The goal of green energy is generally to create power with as little pollution as possible as a by-product.
Reynard Corporation has been involved in green energy by providing Anti-reflection coating on Solar Cells (4% gain in transmission/surface). These coatings are hard and durable and will meet most environment exposures.
Reynard also provides Low-E coatings that suppress radiant heat flow. These coatings significantly reflect the heat load passing through windows, thus reducing heating bills during winter time. These coatings can be either a metallic or metallic oxide coating and will reflect 30% of the heat load back into the room while transmitting 70% of the light through the window.
Reynard Corporation provides broadband reflector coatings for Solar Concentrators and Solar Reflectors. These coatings are metallic and are designed for outdoor environments.
Prior to the installation of a wind turbine, a LIDAR is typically used to determine the most optimum location and direction of wind. A LIDAR sends pulses of laser light into the air and measures the Doppler shift of air molecules to determine wind speed and direction. These instruments require a combination of high transmission and filtering optics to achieve a high-precision measurement.
